The following is the philosophy of Charles Schultz, the creator of the ’Peanuts’ comic strip.

You don’t have to actually answer the questions. Just ponder on them.
Just read the e-mail straight through, and you’ll get the point.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.
4 Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade’s worth of World Series winners.

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday.
These are no second-rate achievers.
They are the best in their fields.
But the applause dies..
Awards tarnish.
Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here’s another quiz.. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special!!
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?

The lesson:
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials..
the most money…or the most awards.
They simply are the ones who care the most

Pass this on to those people who have made a difference in your life.

”Be Yourself. Everyone Else Is Taken!”

Do you dream and fantasise? I bet you do. We all do at some stage. Well that is basically what visualisation is. I have been reading a great book ‘Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting’ by Lynn Grabhorn. The author is quite ‘wacky’ but is totally passionate about how she visualises herself into a vibrational frenzy and then everything she visualises comes her way.

So, I thought I would give it a go her way. I had dropped my son off at his Dad’s house and had a 20 minute drive back home. Ideal for some visualisation. I was travelling along a reasonably quiet road heading for the A2 and I thought, I know, I will visualise my car as being my Volvo C 70 – a black one!

I pictured the cream seats, the black bonnet stretching out in front of me. I could smell the leather and the new carpets. I could feel the automatic gear lever in my hand. I could feel the power as I gently accelerated along the road. I was loving it! I felt so good in my C70. I just couldn’t wait to get out onto the main road to put my foot down. I felt the sterring wheel. I could see my number plate on my wonderful new car and I imagined it sitting on my drive.

I know that my C70 is on it’s way. It’s on the production line and is waiting to be tested, finished and taken to the pick up point. I can feel it.

Imagine my surprise and delight within 3 minutes of my visualisation exercise, what do you think I saw driving towards me along this quite country road? Yep! A black Volvo C70! I screached out in delight and whooped whooped all the way home. What a feeling.

Do you belive in synchronicity? Do you look for and spot the signs? I do. And they ALWAYS work.

So keep visiting, because Jilly’s black Volvo is on it’s way…. I can feel it! Lush!

Here we are in the midst of the big freeze. As usual, everything in the UK comes to a grinding halt and it can be a nightmare for many people. It can be a really bad time for businesses and whilst employees are happy to take a couple more days off, the business owners have to work out the cost. My John told me that he was watching the news yesterday and they were interviewing the Big Cheese at Sainsbury’s. The reporter was horrified when he was told that if employees from Sainsbury’s cannot make it into work due to the weather, then they are not paid for that day. Why is that such a horrific prospect? As a business owner I feel that is only fair. He added that his employees had a month to make the time up so that their wage packets would not be affected. Good plan I’d say.

My daughter works for a major high street bank. She is based at Canterbury but lives in Dover. There were no buses to get her to work today so she put her Uggs on and walked the 3 miles into the Dover Town Centre branch and did her days shift there. It wasn’t ideal, but it was the best she could do in the circumstances.

I think at times like this we all have to be flexible. The booking I had on the Isle of Sheppey this evening has been postponed and so I lose my fee for today. Normally with last minute cancellations I would charge, but in this case, it really couldn’t be helped and it would be ridiculous to expect people to turn out to an evening event. You just have to take it on the chin and be flexible.

I must admit I am finding it very difficult to focus on my work at the moment. It is kind of a surreal situation and nothing is normal. This morning I fussed around and couldn’t settle to anything. I felt fuzzy and disorientated (no – it wasn’t hangover!) and I couldn’t work out why I felt this way. John and I chatted about it and I realised that I had just about ‘burnt out’ as I had been working, selling Ben’s calendar all over Christmas and New Year and had had only Christmas and Boxing Day off.

So here I am presented with a forced ’stop’, and I have decided to use it. Time to recognise that if you keep going, going and going, eventually you burn out and then what are you fit for? Naff all!

So, the snow may be a pain, but it has just provided me with a safety net. There’s always a positive!

Today I asked two colleagues with whom I have worked over the past few years, if they would mind giving me a testimonial for the work I have done with them. I was bowled over with the result. Within 1 hour, both had replied and provided me with some wonderful words so that I can move forward to new clients with confidence and credibility.

Never be afraid to ask for testimonials. What is the worst anyone can say? 99% of the time you will be asking the right person who will be only too pleased to say what they think about you, in the nicest possible way, which is not only useful, but also makes you feel fantastic!

Go for it!

Was your Valentine’s Day romantic beyond belief? Hands Up! No one? Never mind. John and I did partake in the Marks and Spencer special £20 meal (with a rose!) which I have to say was pretty special, but we cannot be bothered to get all worked up about it. Thank goodness it is over for another year.

So, if your passion was not ignitied by someone of the opposite sex, I would like to make up for it. Steady! Passion is not all about romance after all. Passion is what drives us to be successful. Passion is what keeps us from giving up what can seem, at times, impossible hills to climb. Passion is what we should be working with on a daily basis.

How are your passion levels? Want some tips on how to get them roaring? Well, now is your chance. Following on from the Power Your Way into Life Seminars, I am running a set of interactive workshops to give you all the tools you need to live the life you deserve. Why would you settle for second best? They are limited to 10 delegates and are filling up fast, so if you haven’t requested a booking form yet, email me on jill@jilltipping.co.uk and I will send you one through.

Join me for some powerful sessions in Folkestone at the beginning of March. Click here for full details.

SEE YOU THERE!

The last week has simply whooshed by. On Monday I held a session with 5 young Mums who were looking to get back into the workplace. We talked about self esteem and fear. It was obvious that these women were intelligent individuals who had spent several years dealing with demanding infants and like so many of us Mums, had lost some of their confidence. I remember having Amy (who is now 21 but I’ve got to say it seems like yesterday) and taking her out into the town for the first time. I packed the pram up and stacked it in the boot, put her in her car seat and off we went. It seems hard to believe, but I was terrified of getting the pram out and setting it all up and then pushing my new baby around the town. So much so that I parked well out of the town so that nobody would see me struggling and sweating with all this new responsibility, pram AND baby.

It is like that when we start anything new isn’t it. We feel totally out of our comfort zone and quite often, this is what stops us going forward – the fear of the unknown. But just pushing through that fear is what life is all about, and as soon as we realise that and recognise the feeling of butterflies in our tummies, we can deal with it, step out, achieve and feel great afterwards.

The next day I was working on similar issues of confidence but with a group of unemployed men, most of whom had recently been made redundant. Their self esteem was pretty low, although they were not that comfortable in admitting it, for completely different reasons from my Monday Mums. They were also having to step out of their comfort zones as their comfortable jobs which they knew so well were no longer there. Difficult! But, by the end of the day we were swapping ideas on the best way to secure interviews after applying for jobs and how to handle those interviews when they go that far. It was quite interesting, but none of them had ever considered starting their own business. Too scary! No, I don;t think it had ever come up on their radars.

That same evening I ran a networking session for business women in Ashford. After the girls shared their business successes, we looked at ways we could strive for financial freedom by building asset bases providing passive income.

So, all in all a pretty varied week. I finished off the week by traveling up to Kings Langley near Watford with my business partner Frances and my hubby John, to share in one of our author’s book launches. We have just published ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Get’ with Steve Grayson and he had arranged a get together and a presentation for his friends and colleagues to celebrate the launch. Boy, has he got some stories to tell. For most of his professional life he has been an undercover photojournalist for the News of the World, so you can imagine the tales he recounted to us! If you want to hear about them, buy his book (click here to go to KTP site).

So there we are, a week in the life of JT. How privileged am I to work with such a variety of interesting people.

By the way, if you want to keep up with all that is going on in the Jill Tipping world just add your email at the top of the page and I’ll add you to the list for my newsletters.

Wow! What a week it has been. I was delighted with how the Power Seminar went on Tuesday. Everyone seemed to get something out of it and judging by the feedback sheets and emails I have received, it certainly hit the mark.

The interesting thing is that I really wasn’t saying anythiing that the delegates did not already know, but we all need to be reminded from time to time. I constantly read books and listen to CDs about personal development. I just love it! I always pick up something new and always, without fail, feel motivated and ready to take action. And that my friends is what it is all about – ACTION!

I will be running the Power workshops in Folkestone in a few weeks time, hopefully from the UCF so keep logging on for more details.

I am now planning my next seminar which will be in Canterbury. More details to follow.

Whatever business you are in, whether you are providing a service or a product, you should always look for ways to add value to what you provide your customers with. It really doesn’t take much, just a bit of thought.

We seem to spend so much time and money looking for new customers but very little on looking after our existing customers or offering a superb after sales service for those we have just taken on.

This came into my mind today as I had dealings with a mobile phone company. They called me on the off chance that I may be looking for a new phone contract. As it happens, I was. So we started the dialogue, arranged a deal and they promised me a new phone within the next 48 hours. It actually arrived the next day. My expectations had been exceeded. So far, so good.

From there on it went down hill badly. Firstly, I opened the outer packaging and saw that it had been sent in an old box. OK. Benefit of doubt. I opened the box to find that it had obviously been sent to someone else first as the packaging was all over the place. OK. Let’s have a look at the phone. It looked nice. A Nokia E71. My excitement of owning my new phone then completely disappeared when I looked through the phone and found somebody else’s details (bank account numbers, pin numbers, private messages, list of personal goals) and so it went on.

So, luckily I am an honest person and so I called the company the next day and told them. Anyone can make a mistake so I again gave them the benefit of the doubt.

Had that been my company and I had sent out someone else’s private details to a random customer I would have been horrified. But no. I would have to go to the Post Office, ask them for a packaging bag and post it back to them. Then on receipt they would send me out another phone and send me a cheque refunding my postage!!! For goodness sake! Just send me another phone with a bag to put the other one in and I will give it directly to the delivery man.

Needless to say, not only will I not be taking out my phone contract with them as I cannot trust their after sales service, but I will be recommending that my friends and colleagues give them a large body swerve as well.

Had they apologised for their mistake and replaced my phone immediately, I would have forgotten their massive ‘goof’ and carried on as planned.

So just adding that little bit of customer service post sale, or dealing with mistakes in a professional, client focused manner, is just so important. it just takes a bit of thought.

For some time now (years in fact) I have been meaning to write a book about my life. Does that sound conceited? Probably! Anyway, I have now made the decision to stop procrastinating and just get on with it. I have had the first line in my mind for years, so I started with that and I’m off.

I wasn’t sure what to base the book on as there are all sorts of aspects opf my life, good and bad, which I wanted to talk about, but I have now decided to write about life with ‘My John’.

My John

John and I met over 12 years ago and since that time my life has been akin to a roller coaster. Great stuff! John’s level of dyslexia is so severe that it makes him a very interesting person to live with because he is also very intelligent. Quite a paradox, don’t you agree? So I want to write about our life together and our journey through his depression 5 years ago and how he came out the other side. In fact, it was not until I read his book, Go Play in the Sand, John, that I realised just how depressed and dangerously close to the edge he had become.

So I am hoping that my book will help others to understand dyslexia more from the the point of view of someone who lives along side it day in and day out.

I also want to include our business journey which is a whole book in its own right really. How we made a complete hash of it at the start and then how we handled the debt it left us with.

How strange, you may think, that she is writing this in her blog. Well, what better way to commit to something. When you set your goals, tell the world. Great motivation to go ahead and get it done!
